Help

How to use NexHalla

Browsing NexHalla is free and needs no account. This page covers the site first, then the desktop overlay.

Using the site

Video guide Coming soon

A short video tour of the site is in preparation. Everything it will show is written below.

Find a player

Type a Brawlhalla name or ID in the search on the home page, or press Ctrl K (⌘ K on a Mac) on any page to open the search palette, which also lists the site's main pages. Suggestions appear as you type; press Enter to search all players.

Rankings

Ranked leaderboards by game mode and region, sortable by several columns. Select a player's name to open their profile.

Player profiles

A profile is split into tabs: overview, ranked season, 2v2 teams, legends, weapons and gadgets. From the top of the profile you can add the player to your favourites, copy the link or compare them with others.

Legends and weapons

Statistics for every legend and weapon, measured on the top ranked players: how often they are played, their win rate, damage and KOs.

Guilds and Compare

Top Guilds ranks clans by XP; open a clan to see its members. Compare puts up to four players side by side.

Looking for teammates

Read the ads players post to find a partner, filtered by region and tier. Posting your own ad requires an account.

Mini-games

Guess the Legend, ELO Duel and Lore Quest can be played without an account. Sign in to save your streaks and appear on their leaderboards.

Your account

An account is optional. It keeps your favourites across devices, links your own Brawlhalla profile (My Profile), and lets you post ads and save mini-game streaks. From the account page you can export your data or delete your account at any time.

Language and theme

The settings button in the top bar switches between nine languages and between the dark and light themes.

Using the overlayComing soon

Not available yet

The NexHalla overlay is a desktop application that is still in development. It cannot be downloaded yet: its page, NexHalla Overlay, describes what it does, and the download will be offered there once its installation has been validated.

Connecting it to your account

The overlay will connect to your NexHalla account in one of two ways: by signing in from the application with your email and password, or with a device token generated on the account page, under Devices. Both require a verified email address. A token is shown only once; copy it into the application.

Managing access

Every connected application is listed under Devices on the account page, with the date it was last used, and can be revoked there at any time. Changing or resetting your password revokes all of them; deleting your account removes them.

Desktop app

NexHalla Overlay

NexHalla's Brawlhalla stats, on top of the game. Type a name and read that player's ranked stats — 1v1 and 2v2 ELO, rank, wins and losses — and most played legends, without leaving the match.

DownloadVersion 0.2.0

Version 0.2.0 — Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit — free.

The installer will be offered here once its installation has been validated.

What it does
  • It shows up on its own when Brawlhalla is running and hides when the game closes. You can change this in its settings.
  • Search by name. Pick a player in the list to open their sheet.
  • Opponent reading (Ctrl Shift S, experimental): it reads the names shown on screen and looks up their sheets (see below).
  • It never touches the game. No memory reading, no injection, no keystrokes sent to the game: it sees the screen the way a screenshot does.
  • Available in 9 languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
  • Automatic updates. They download in the background and install when you close the app.
Requirements
  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • About 141 MB to download and 420 MB on disk.
  • An Internet connection, for player sheets and their images (legends, weapons, ranks).
  • No administrator rights: it installs for your Windows account only.
  • For opponent reading, a Windows OCR language that covers the script of the names. Otherwise the overlay falls back to a built-in English engine, which is less accurate.
Installation
  1. Download NexHalla-Overlay-0.2.0-x64.exe and run it.
  2. Windows will probably show a SmartScreen warning. The overlay is not digitally signed, so Windows does not know its publisher. To continue, open the warning's additional information, then choose to run the app anyway.
  3. At the end of the installation, you can choose to launch the overlay when Windows starts.
  4. On first launch, the overlay shows itself once, with a welcome note. After that it waits for Brawlhalla. Its icon may be among the hidden icons of the taskbar (the ^ arrow).

Uninstall

Windows Settings, Apps, NexHalla Overlay. Your settings are kept in %APPDATA%\nexhalla-overlay: delete that folder to erase everything.

Shortcuts
  • Ctrl Shift X — shows or hides the overlay
  • Ctrl Shift Z — click-through: your clicks go to the game through the overlay
  • Ctrl Shift S — reads the opponents' names on screen
  • Esc — hides the overlay

The overlay does not take the focus when it appears. Click in its panel to type a name.

Brawlhalla display modes

Tested on one PC, with the overlay visible over the game:

  • Maximized: during a play session, matches included.
  • Fullscreen: one check, on the main menu.

Windowed mode has not been tested. If the overlay does not appear, switch Brawlhalla to Maximized.

Opponent readingExperimental

With Ctrl Shift S, the overlay takes a capture of the screen and reads the names on it. The reading happens on your PC, with Windows OCR. It then looks up each name on NexHalla: 6 names at most per reading. If a name matches a single player, their sheet opens; if there are namesakes, you choose.

  • The reading is not perfect. It was measured on 4 names only, in 2 game captures: with zones, all 4 were read exactly, with no false name; on the whole screen, 3 were read exactly and 1 partly, plus 3 false names searched for nothing.
  • Draw a zone around the names, in the overlay's settings: reading is more reliable there. If you change screen or resolution, draw it again.
  • A name in a non-Latin script (Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean) can only be read with the matching Windows OCR language.
  • The captured image never leaves your PC and is not saved. Only the names read are sent to NexHalla, for the search.
Privacy

The overlay talks only to nexhalla.com. It sends it the names you search or that the reading finds, and the ID of the players whose sheet you open. At each launch, the update check also sends a random identifier, specific to your installation. Details: Privacy.

Known limits
  • One screen at a time: the one where the mouse is when the overlay appears.
  • Brawlhalla on Windows only.

Data never sold
What we collect
Local data (browser only)
Stored only in this browser (localStorage), never sent to our servers. Whatever you choose in the storage banner, we keep: that choice, your theme and language, the region you pick on the rankings, the profile you set as My Profile, the email of a sign-up awaiting verification, and a copy of your favourites (adding favourites requires an account; they are saved to it — see Account data). Only if you accept: the players you opened recently (search history), the last page you visited, reopened if you come back within an hour, and a cache of data already loaded — news (2 hours), legend and weapon statistics (15 minutes), the size of the rankings (30 minutes) and player portraits (no expiry). Until you choose, none of these is stored: the site behaves as with “Essential only”, which also deletes them from this browser. Separately, the browser's offline cache keeps the site's shell — styles, scripts, the interface images already displayed (legends, weapons, ranks) and the home page — whatever you choose; no page you visit, such as a profile, is ever kept in it.
IP addresses (temporary)
Kept in the application's memory for up to 2 minutes for rate limiting, never shared with third parties. For daily visitor counts, only a truncated non-reversible hash (HMAC keyed with a secret salt) is stored — never the IP itself.
Separately, our web server (nginx) logs each request — IP address, page requested, time, referring page and browser identifier (user agent) — and keeps these logs 14 days, for security and diagnostics.
Aggregated statistics
We count page views and daily unique visitors to operate the site. Counts are aggregated per day (no individual browsing profile), the hashing salt rotates every day (no cross-day correlation), and everything is deleted after 90 days.
API cache (public data)
Brawlhalla API responses are cached for 5 to 15 minutes to speed up the site, then kept for about 6 more hours to answer if the API is unavailable. dair.gg data (legend XP and levels, clan) is cached for 2 to 6 hours; for profiles fetched by NexHalla, each legend's XP and level and the player's clan are kept with no time limit, for the legend XP rankings and clan lists.
Username history (public data)
Brawlhalla usernames seen when viewing profiles are stored to display name history.
Activity seen on the public rankings
By comparing the public ranked leaderboards every few hours, we note the last day we saw each player play ranked (kept with no time limit) and how many ranked matches we saw per day (kept 60 days).
On profiles fetched by NexHalla: when each legend's game count changed (deleted 60 days after the profile was last fetched).
Ranked 1v1 ELO history (top 1000 and profiles viewed here): kept 90 days.
NexHalla Overlay (desktop app)
A search in the overlay — a name you type, or one read on your screen with Ctrl+Shift+S, which can be another player's, an opponent's — sends that name to nexhalla.com in the address of the request (/api/v1/player/search?name=…). The NexHalla application keeps nothing of it, but our web server logs the full address — the name included — with your IP address, the time and the app's identifier (NexHallaOverlay and its version), for 14 days, like any request.
Opening a player's sheet sends that player's Brawlhalla ID, logged the same way for 14 days. The legend, weapon and rank images on the sheet are loaded from nexhalla.com: the same log shows which images were requested, and so, roughly, which player you looked at.
Once per launch, the update check asks nexhalla.com for the latest version and sends a random identifier (36 characters, x-user-staging-id header), created at the first check and stored on your PC (%APPDATA%\nexhalla-overlay\.updaterId). It contains nothing about you or your PC but stays the same from one launch to the next; the overlay does not use it, its update library sends it. Our web server does not log it: for this request too, its log keeps the IP address, the time, the address requested and the identifier « electron-builder », for 14 days. Uninstalling keeps the file; deleting that folder erases it.
Screen captures and the text read on screen never leave your PC: only the names found, 6 at most per reading, are searched. No cookie, no account token, and no service other than nexhalla.com.
Account data (if you create an account)
If you create an account, we store your email, a one-way argon2id hash of your password (never the password itself), your login sessions, and a non-reversible hash of your IP for security auditing. Data is kept until you delete your account; sessions expire automatically. Verification emails are sent via a third-party SMTP relay. This data is never sold or shared.
Signing in sets one cookie, nh_sess. It holds a random session identifier, its expiry date and a signature — no email, no name. The page's scripts cannot read it (HttpOnly) and it travels only over HTTPS (Secure). It lasts 30 days and is renewed for 30 days when you use the site with less than 15 days left; it is deleted when you sign out. A visitor who does not sign in receives no cookie. A second cookie, nh_ops, is set only for the site administrator, on a private dashboard, for 12 hours.
With each login session we also keep your browser identifier (user agent, as your browser sends it), for the same security auditing. It is deleted with the session: when you sign out, or at the first daily purge after the session expires (30 days after its last use).
We also keep the date your account was created, whether your email is verified, and the dates of your last sign-in and of your last password change (each replaced by the next one), until you delete your account.
If you generate a token for the desktop app, we keep a non-reversible hash of it (never the token itself), its name, the date it was created and the date it was last used. A revoked token stays in your list, marked as revoked, until you delete your account; only your 20 most recent tokens are kept.
If you link your Brawlhalla profile (My Profile), we keep its ID and name on your account: they are replaced when you link another profile and deleted with your account.
If you play the mini-games while signed in, we keep, for each game, your current and best streak, the game in progress and the dates of your last games, until you delete your account. The mini-game leaderboards publicly show the 20 best streaks with your username (or, if you have none, the name of your linked Brawlhalla profile).
We also store your optional profile customisation — a nickname and a chosen legend avatar (an identifier only; no image is uploaded) — so it appears on your account across devices.
If you post a Looking For Teammate ad, its content — your Discord handle and the text you write — is public on the LFT board, with a link to your Brawlhalla profile. It is included in your data export, is deleted with your account, and expires automatically after 30 days.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you have a NexHalla account, you can exercise these rights at any time from your account menu:
  • ✓Right of access — download a full copy of your data (profile, favourites, sessions, devices, sign-in attempts, LFT ad, mini-games) as JSON via "My data".
  • ✕Right to erasure — permanently delete your account and all associated personal data via "Delete account" (irreversible, password confirmation required).
  • ↻Retention — login sessions expire automatically and stale security records are purged daily; account data is kept only until you delete your account. Database backups are kept 7 days: deleted data disappears from them within 7 days.
